Just had a quail die

I went to the coop and I saw my one female quail just laying there she was still alive, when I picked her up she was really hot and breathing funny with her mounth full of mucus. A few minutes later she was dead. She was doing good a few days ago. Does anyone know what went wrong? I have other quail and I don’t want it to happen to them.

Thank you. Well she was always a bit on the fatter side and always had her feathers puffed up and her wings were always droopy. But she was always full of energy and picked on the other quail.

Perhaps a heart attack? Mites, lice and worms can also cause droopy wings and can definitely kill a small bird such as quail.
