Me, but in my defence, English is my second language, so I don't know every animal and bird automatically, especially ones we didn't have where I lived

We didn't have stoats, we had mongoose. Horrible little creatures.

You have mongoose in Ireland? okay now i'm off to look up mongoose. I looked up stoat before because Johnn had been visited by them before. Okay well Ireland isn't where you have mongoose. they kinda make me think of stoats except for coloring.

No, we had them in South Africa where I lived before. We moved to Ireland 2 months ago. Thankfully no mongoose here! I am worried about the Irish beasts though... Luckily nothing so far. I think the neighbour's dog helps keep them at bay.

the hen really should have just give it a few pecks, it was quite small and obviously didnt know how to kill her!

They kill by wearing victim down until a death dealing bite can be delivered to neck or back of skull. They are much more effective when chicken can not see to turn away making so stoat / weasel can go straight after neck.

Its not the first time i have had a stoat, i had one kill my light sussex last year....
