I tried the screws and ended up using the metal staples. They worked much better but does require a little more elbow grease I guess. Easier to screw than to hammer!

If you use the staples, you might want to do another board OVER the edges of the wire so it can not be pryed loose.
Raccoons are pretty good at pulling out staples if they can get to them.
so far haven't caught them with a screwdriver

NOt sure abput your area, but it's illegal for dogs to run loose where I live
call animal control

the other thing folks here have done that I thought was smart is catch the dog and paint a target on it's side
or shoot it with a paint ball gun so it goes home colored as a warning

my choices would be secure my coop, hot wire with elephant-stopping voltage, fence your yard if possible
catch any dog that gets in, lock it up and call the animal control or take it to the shelter
get vidoe of them on your property and harrassing chickens in your coop

sorry this is happening

It's all forestry and farms where we are so animal control is either exercised by farmers, chasseurs or gendarmes. Usual dog regs apply: registered, tattoo'd and/or tagged. Since that night we've had no dog trouble - just deer. Restrung and restapled a longish stretch of fence, hammered in a couple of new stakes and off we go!
