I searched online that the sac that is attached to my just hatched chick is a yolk sac that if it doesn't absorb it will die. What are the chances of having a healthy chick in a week? Can it absorb the sac outside of the shell? Or did this have to happen before hatching?

Pictures are worth a 1000 words.. but I've seen others on here mention that they've had survivors who hatched with the yolks still out. I believe they left them in the incubator a little longer and most turned out fine.

leave it in the incubator, if possible. The humidity will help keep the sac from drying out too much. Hopefully, he/she will be able to absorb the rest of it (or most of it) in there. good luck!

That one probably won't make it. But, that's just my experience. When the others hatch out, they will start walking all over it and pecking at the sac, making it more difficult for it to survive.
But, ya never know! Stranger things have happened!

The sac is alot longer and very thin at the vent now. Lots of blood trailing behind the chick on paper towel covering part of incubator floor. Not too active either. Only one other chick has hatched so far.

I dont think that one will be able to survive

Usually you can keep them quiet and they can absorb the rest if its just a tiny bit, but that looks like almost the whole thing. So sorry. JEN
