Hi!

So I posted previously about my several eggs my broody stopped sitting on - I put them in the incubator a week ago. Today we had our first one hatched but the chick is still attached to yolk sac / shell. Chick is moving around and chirping but just dragging around the shell / sac.

Any ideas what to do? I’ve attached a photo.

Also do I need to lay down paper towel so it’s easier for chick to walk on?

Just snip that off.
Not too close to the body though but enough so it won't step on it.
It's not yolk or anything, it's fine to cut the string.

It's okay, we've all been there! Congrats on the chick!

Thanks so much! I thought I lost all these ones, so I’m super excited.

Should I remove the shell and gunk from the bator? Also should I put anything down on the incubator floor since it has the little gaps?
