I have a 17 week old BO (debeaked), in the run, and three 2 week old chicks on the patio. I took the chicks out to the run. My BO went to inspect, and they all inspected eachother, one chick pecked the BO, she pecked them all, walked away, came back, and let the chicks peck her all over, even let them peck her face. No one was nasty. It was very cute. My babies were testing their wings. If one found something and picked it up, the other two would chase her. My BO, who has seemed depressed looked pretty happy for the time being.I sat on the ground and drank my morning coffee. Then I had to put the chicks back (too hot). Gotta remember my camera.

seminolewind, Chickens are social animals. If the BO is the only chicken there, it's probably happy to have company. It sounds like they were getting to know each other, and establishing the Pecking Order...
Good luck,
Tom D.

Its kinda sad to take the chicks back to their cage on the patio. I don't think anyone likes it. But I don't have enough protection for them out there.

Still just having fun. I took the chicks out this evening to the run, my BO perks up so much with the chicks there. Of course there is a few pecks, but then my BO (18 wks) follows them around like she wants to be part of the clan. Its the only time when she acts like a chicken, the rest of the day alone she just mopes in her coop. They all get so upset when I take the chicks back to the house. I wonder when it would be safe to move the chicks out there. I know I should wait till they are bigger. I worry about the heat.
