Just how wiley are coyotes?

That's very scary having them so comfortable around your house! Cats are coyote candy - a favorite treat. I'd be watching them from my window too but with a rifle and picking them off as fast as I could.

In all honesty you need to kill or remove this entire pack. The little girl in your avatar is small enough for just one coyote to kill. A pack of 10 could knock you down and take her right out of your arms as you walk into the house from the car. Laying about your yard and staying within 10 feet of humans is extraordinarily brazen and bold behavior. It is only a matter of time before they kill chickens, dogs or even your small children. Killing or having them removed is the only safe action I would take as a parent.

There are hunters and trappers that are more then willing to come onto your land and safely and efficiently remove the coyotes for you at no cost to you or your family.

if you got pots or pans,have someone hold the doors and you start running at them bangig them together but dont get to close.or you throw a iron cast skillet out the window at them ..i agree with the gun and the den idea.your house was vacant for 2 years!!!be on surpervise mode alwasy and keep all food for coyotes up and away.

I haven't read all the posts, so I apologize if I repeat. They seldom challenge people, but they seem awfully comfortable at your house. Your cats, dogs and chickens are definitely in danger. I have a downright nasty Aussie mix that I lock up at night to keep him safe. But our coyotes never come close enough to be seen...they are extremely wily.

I am loathe to shoot anything until it really threatens those in my care. My husband has gleefully "marked" the area around our house, and my mare will kill anything canine-without-human-protection around the barn. This has worked here.

This last winter the local coyotes have pretty much wiped out our flock of African geese, rouen ducks, and most of the muscovies. They got a few of the mallards, call ducks, a couple turkey hens, and 1 peacock. These birds were penned up in a barn and had a 5' fence around their outside area. The snow drifted just enough that they were able to get up over that fence. We came out to find a slaughter and brought the remaining birds up to the main barn. There were coyote tracks right up to the front door and all over the yard then too. I was out there doing chores and they came up in broad daylight with me there to nab the peacock. I've talked to my neighbors and their cats are gone and some dogs have been killed here too. Do you want to walk outside or even let your kids out?
