Just In Time Hatching Egg AUCTION and BIN Thread

Just a brief update:

the eggs I got from DMRippy are doing great! There are only a couple of clears.. the rest have bouncing lil spiders in them!

The turkey eggs that the post office tried to murder that I got from Ariell have at least one survivor!... there weren't a lot of eggs to start with.. but the USPS really hated that box.. it arrived partially crushed!..

the RIR and English Orp eggs I got from JamesA are looking pretty bad.. the USPS broke several in each box.. all of the remainders are 100% clear... scrambled eggs anyone?

Hopefully the barred rocks and replacements for the RIR and English Orps fare better once they start their journey to my home...

the eggs from Ki4got are suffering almost the same fate.. there is at least one little dorking egg in there that is a fighter.. a few eggs that I can't candle through so they are "maybe's".. the rest are clear... (there were also broken eggs in that box)..

on another note.. I got 2 boxes of Cream Legbar eggs in.. no broken eggs in either box.. 2 different sellers.. one box looks like every egg but 1 is alive and well

.. the other box has 0 developing and all the eggs are a nice uniform yellow inside

You really should make a formal complaint with pictures to the Post Master at your local office as well as the nearest hub. The multiple boxes in bad condition. I would bring pictures of the boxes, ship dates, the values of the eggs within the boxes, and any other relevant info and write a formal complaint to hand them in person.

usps is not kind to eggs lately it seems...

sorry to hear they're not growing... and unfortunately I didn't even get any to set for myself. after I sent yours out, I got 4 more eggs over the next 3 days and nothing since! they're on strike and moulting to boot. just my luck.

I kept waiting for more and after a week set the 4. we'll see how they're doing soon.

I got 12 of her wonderfully packed turkey eggs via PM and even if USPS tried to crush them with a tank I think the eggs would have been fine! 3 boxes in each other then a column in the smallest box to give additional rigidity and stability for the eggs then packed with shredded paper and finally individually wrapped in bubble wrap!

I can't wait!

My packing effort keeps changing to thwart the usps-- but sometimes I still can't win. Still don't understand why they supply boxes that cannot withstand the rigors of usps handling.

I have often wondered if handling would improve if we all shipped in live chick boxes instead of the reg priority boxes. sigh. THe down side of FAST delivery.

somedays I think they would do better shipped via pony express...

after all.. a bouncing horse couldn't be any worse than the "paint mixer ride" that they go on in Austin!

Quote: I talked to the local university's poultry vet and they have great hatch rates with FedEx (not ground) just not sure if I personally want to cough up the extra for 2nd day. I supposed with USPS you would also have good hatch rates if you went express with them.

I suppose it all comes down to the cost of the eggs. If I'm dropping 80 bucks on a dozen red brown pheasant comb cream silkied long legged dinosaur chicken eggs I wouldn't mind paying FedEx. Actually its been a while but it used to be fedex 2nd day was cheaper than the post office? if its just 6 dollars more, well, it might be worth it. Does anyone have an account to check the "normal" rates- it used to be a lot cheaper if you had an account than those shiping places.

DIdn't realize FedX carried eggs. I was under the impression that we could only ship USPS for eggs.

Even when I mark eggs " non-machineable" they arrive so fast that the box was surely sent thru the mix master.
