Just interested to know, who does stuffing and who makes dressing!

I don't know why I didn't just get out a cookbook and look up recipes back then - I just envisioned myself a visionist I guess.

I know! My first ever "family" dinner at our new house (I was 23 and just married), I cooked a pot roast with vegetables. I didn't own a cookbook.

We all sat down at the table and I started trying to slice up the pot roast and cut the whole veggies. Nothing was fully cooked! I had set the oven on 200 degrees and cooked it for 2 hours.

chickabee....
Daddy cut the bread into big bite size cubes(after it was stale) and also made giblet gravy.I'm getting hungry just talking about it .My son is also carrying on the tradition( except for the wild turkey, then again, maybe he is,He sure wouldn't tell me) sometimes he over does it with the sage.I keep saying,"Only a pinch, boy." By the way, I meant to say my Dad was from W.Va....Lewisburg.I said Virginia... So far I haven't heard anyone use chopped green pepper in their dressing,it's really good...

That's funny now but didn't it seem so dramatic and traumatic and world ending back then?

When I picked up that bowl of cumquat and liver stuffing and threw it away, I was crying. You'd have thought my best friend had died. I just sat back down, with tears streaming down my face and told the new DH "Please don't say a word." I think he did try to say "It wasn't that bad" but that made me cry all the more.

It wouldn't be till much later that we could laugh about it and say how truly awful it was.

Luckily I've never had a HUGE mess in the kitchen, I learned to cook the basics before I was 10.

Picked up all the good useful info like making gravy and white sauce/rue. Cheese sauce etc.

We use a french meat pie stuffing in the bird..and also a bread one as an extra side dish with the meal..
