What were you thinking??

Every year, no matter what I do to remind myself to watch them, I burn the marshmallows. That tradition has been going on now for more than 25 years.

Mom makes the dressing and it is not the yucky boxed stuff. Chicken broth, bread crumbs, sage, hard boiled eggs, mushroom pieces, mmm I am hungry, etc etc (ancient Chinese Secret! Oh that is laundry stuff sorry! ) anyway, mom knows the recipe.

I DO Mashed potatoes and not the boxed flakes. The real HOMEMADE mashed with loads of butter and milk(whole milk only) Fluffed up to a marvelous whip. I missed Thanksgiving one year because we had a chance to go to Disney World and I got chewed out because no one could make the mashed potatoes like I do. I GOT A JOB THERE!!!!!

I make my( Daddy's )dressing every Thanksgiving and Christmas. He was from Va. and he always made it.My Mom never did.He had the special touch. I remember him scrubbing the kitchen table clean, then getting out the chopping board and cutting up the celery, onion & green peppers. Then he'd fry it up in a big, ole, frying pan.( with lots of butter). The smell would cling to your hair and clothes,I loved it.It was also a tradition with him to be drinking" Wild Turkey" and stay up all night cooking the turkey & dressing,he always put a dash of sage in it too.He would always get 6 loaves of bread ,leave it out to get stale, about 5 days, and then mix it all up with his hands(he was meticulously clean.)He had been a cook in the army.Maybe thats why he always made so much food. The smell of turkey and dressing brings back fond memories. We carry on the same tradition of turkey & sage dressing every year.( we don't get drunk though)

Stuffing, definitely... It isn't the same with all those delicious turkey juices throughout...

Ours is made of celery, mushrooms and onion, sage, garlic and a few other spices, dried bread chunks, and chicken stock.

Did he cut it into slices before letting it sit out? I've dried fresh bread in the oven the day before, but wondering if there is a better way...

We cook the turkey and the cornbread-and-biscuit base is saturated with it. My DH makes it, but he puts chopped onions, hardboiled eggs and shredded turkey in it. Yum. Fattening as heck, but yummy anyway.

Stuffing from scratch made with the stock from the turkey giblets, poultry seasoning, onion, celery, salt and pepper to taste, 2 eggs and stale bread just like my mom use to make!
