Just joined: Long time reader here at BYC!

Thanks so much, to all of you, for the warm welcome!
We got 8 chickens, and each a different breed, because our intention was to have only hens. Let me see if I can remember each one:
an australorp, a welsummer, a buff orpington, a golden comet, a rhode island red, a white plymouth rock, a silver laced wyandott, and an easter egger.

They were all vent-sexed but ummm, we quite suspect we have a problem, or 2. ;)
That's what I'm itching to post about, with photos, that isn't working right now.

We got our chickens when they were one day old, all of them lived and are just wonderful girls. They are 17 weeks old and just started laying. They come running when I come out to the coop and swarm me when I give them treats.
You will love having chickens.

You're welcome. you have a nice mix of dual-purpose chickens. Australorps are my favorite standard breed; very hardy, calm and gentle, and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. I like the chocolate eggs of the Welsummers, and the Golden Comet (one of many labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links) are egg laying machines. The Easter Eggers are my granddaughter's favorites. She loves their colored eggs. I'm looking forward to seeing your pics. Good luck with your flock.
