I have absolutely no idea what happened. My (not quite 4-yr old) khaki girl just passed away.

This morning, she ran out of the house with the others, as always. She ate breakfast and went to the pond. My neighbor came over later and said that he noticed her walking very poorly. She wouldn't come out of the pond, but looked fine, eyes good, alert, swimming.

I couldn't coax her out of the pond for several hours. We finally got the boat in and were able to get a hold of her and took her immediately back to the house. I examined her -- no visible injury, no swollen legs, bumblefoot, eyes and feathers clean. But she absolutely could not walk at all.

I don't believe she was egg bound, as I am getting 9-10 eggs a day.

I set her up with peas and water, then got food for the other ducks to bring the rest inside. This is seriously less than 15 minutes, and when I checked on her she was gone. I'm really heartbroken. Just need to vent.

I’m sorry for your loss. 😔 losing a beloved pet can be very hard.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost one of my 6 month old twin Saxony girls like that. Wouldn’t come off the pond at the end of the day - then unable to walk Next morning. Drove an hour and half to get her to avian vet - but it was too late. She was septic by then and euthanized soon after arrival . Necropsy showed no prior obvious cause for the resulting sepsis. Fortunately her twin is now 11 months old and still very healthy.

That is so sad. Do you know how she got sepsis?
