Don't really need that many, but I got each breed I wanted. I'm so excited for them to get here! I asked for them to be banded for which breed is which - does it really get done and is it accurate?

I "forgot" to tell hubby that they usually send packing peanuts for warmth. So I don't know if I ordered enough for no packing peanuts, but I'll be happy either way (the kids will be ecstatic!). Hubby will be overwhelmed with more fuzzy butts....LOL! Either way, I'm gonna have to extend our coop. YAY!

Just had to share!

I am no expert but I think you need to tell them you don't want packing peanuts at all, or they will send you a bunch of little roos that you are going to have to find homes for. If you want more chickens, just order some more pullets--most hatcheries except Meyer require 25 for body heat during shipping. You can read Ideal's policy online.

Like I said before, I'm happy either way - packing peanuts or none. I ordered all pullets, but if roos show up too, they'll eventually go with my other roos to freezer camp in soup form. Maybe if I have enough roos, I could can up some chicken instead of using freezer space - THAT would be awesome!

This is my very first order ever. I've looked into it so many times. Last spring we bought 4 chicks as a straight run locally, 2 were roos. So the hens are laying every day now and I can't wait to get more eggs! I've been making the kids eggs 4 times a week for breakfast - so much healthier than sugar cereal. Looking into pickling eggs and freezing them, etc. I want LOTS!

Come on little chickies, get here FAST!

I'm with you- I love packing peanuts... free meat! And I can't wait to get more chicks for more eggs. I get about 12 eggs a day from 16 hens, and it's not enough! No, we don't eat that many eggs, but I sell three dozen a week to a friend and have had many neighbors ask me about buying eggs... and I love keeping chickens so much I want to meet their demands! I plan to order at least 25 more layers as early as I can in the spring (probably March-ish- I don't want to keep chicks when it's sub-zero and snowy here in MN).

I am right in there with you dispatch. We put in our first ever order for our first ever chickens a few weeks ago. They are supposed to show up tuesday!!!!

Fun!!! I ordered 6 English Imported Orpington's! 2 blue, 2 black, 2 splash. And I will probably be getting a lavender so I will have 2 lav girls!

I think you will find that you LOVE Orpington's! They are little darlings, ( all chickens are though)

Congrats and I hope you have lot's of fun!

Thanks. I wanted more dual-purpose birds so I didn't get any banty chicks, etc. I also wanted a colorful flock without feather legs, silkies or anything too crazy. I've tossed around the idea of getting a roo Orp to raise orp chicks, but we are such city folk that we hate the crowing so early...LOL! Hubby actually threw our last roo in the garage at the first crow each morning and came back to bed, then around 9am when we'd finally wake up (we both work late - til midnight) then we'd let the roo back out. Garage = muffled crowing!!
