I have 2 Buff Orpingtons and 3 Rhode Island Reds, all 20 weeks old and none laying yet. Of the five who are all mostly well behaved, the Reds are a little less loveable than the Orps, one of the Reds in particular will peck at my hands when I rech in to fedd or wtaer them...unusual or not? Raised since one week old...slept next to me first 2 months...want them to like me and certainly don't want them to bite me. P.S. no bloodshed...yet.

I've never been seriously pecked by a hen before (when I say seriously, I mean with the intent to hurt me or out of aggression). Sure, they'll sometimes peck at my wedding ring, thinking it's a treat, and one actually pecked a button off my top (lol), looking for a treat again, but I've never actually been attacked by one. I'm guessing the pecker (pun intended) is the dominant girl in your flock. (?) Maybe you should peck back! It's what another chicken would do. Establish your dominance. That's all I can think of!
