Well, it's hatch day. I have all but 2 of my chicken eggs pipped - 10 chicks already out.
I cracked my single remaining pea egg. I didn't think it was going to hatch, but I had left it in, hoping for the best.
I'm guessing that I lost it during the 3rd week. I had 2 power outtages during this hatch. I'm guessing my peachick didn't make it through the last one.
I'm going to try buying some peachicks. I'm done incubating for a while... especially shipped eggs.
I am sad... I reeeeeeally wanted an opal chick!

That's to bad hopefully you will have better luck with chicks.

Is their anyone close to you that sells pea chicks? I lucked up with a guy close to me. Sorry they didn't hatch. I know how disappointing it is.

Yeah, I was able to find someone relatively local to get some chicks from. He has a waiting list... I'll have to see what's available.
I helped to buffer the loss by hatching silkies, cochins, and various mystery chicks due on the same day. 22 out of 23 of my chicken chicks made it... so I know it wasn't necessarily my fault that the peachick didn't make it. (13 of those chicken eggs were shipped eggs.)
Disregarding the pea egg, that's about a 96% hatch rate - not too bad.
I'm looking forward to getting the 2 week old chicks. I'll be less traumatized. 28 days is a long time to wait... for disappointment!
I think I'm going to get 3. That way I'm more likely to get at least one male and one female.

Yeah that's what I thought as well. I hatched one and bought two.
