I am glad you are giving this hens such a great life. I am sure they are so very grateful to have you.

I rescued 37 battery chickens three years ago. I still have 7 of them. The hard part about my situation is that the person I rescued them from was my grandfather. He had almost 40 chickens in a coop and run that shouldn't have had more than 15 chickens. He didn't have enough roosting space either, so some were sleeping in the nest box, some on the floor (that never got cleaned in the entire two and a half years that my grandfather had them), and some even perched on the water bucket. It's a sad thing what some chickens go through, but it's because of people like us crazy chicken owners who are willing to give them a home, that they have a chance to live such great lives.
