I bought eggs from CA last week and just got them yesterday, waited about 18 hrs and set them this morning. I candled them last night and found one with a loose air sack. I am shocked that I knew what I was looking at, but thanks to this forum that I have avidly been reading for the last 3 weeks, I could totally see it. My 9 year old daughter and 6year old son were amazed, I am so excited for them and myself for these eggs to hatch!!!! God Willing all goes well. Thanks to all of you out there who helped me learn about incubating. I HAVE MY FIRST EGGS!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!

Thanks!!!!! Can anyone tell me how long after setting your temp comes back up? I feel like I need to tweek the thermostat, but I don't want to go too high then have to come back down again, not to mention opening and closing the bator all that much

Jenn - Resist the urge to correct temps. You'll overcorrect and then have to mess with it over and over again.
If you had it right before the eggs went in, the temp will settle at where it was before loading.
Leave it be for the first 48 hours is the rule of thumb. Good luck.

Don't do it! I did ajust my thermostat ( being a newbie i didn't know any better) everything i have read and been told is set it to the right and them never change it again! It takes time for the eggs internal temp to get to what your baitor is.

Thanks guys, Redhd077 and Luvmychicksandducks!!!!! I really appreciate it!! I think in the back of my head I knew I shouldn't touch it, and I haven't. Thank God!! I don't want to broil them, but just seeing that the temp is so low just makes me itch to touch it!!

O yeah... I touched mine my first day and it took me hours to get it back again...I spent the day hovering over my bator instead of doing a million other things. It was over temp by a few degrees (less then an hour) and then I worried the whole 3 weeks. But I will tell you that of the 41 eggs in my bator I have hatched 25 so far...my first hatch ever...2nd day of lockdown. I didn't candle or inspect any. I just put em in there. I will have to read up and study the candeling. Anyway, good luck with your hatch. Btw, I'm hatching Jersey Giants And NH Reds

Congrats for setting your first batch!!! I have been stalking this forum for a few weeks too... the hubs just finished the coop... I have been researching on a bator to get started ... which one did you go with?
