In the Brooder

Hello,
I became the proud mama hen to 8 baby chicks about 5 days ago. I bought them from TSC and am pretty certain they are about 6-7 days old. This is my first time owning chickens and have much to learn about raising them.
I have 3 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Production Reds, 2 Silver Leghorns and 1 Blue Langshan. They are quite funny to watch and we are already noticing their personalities.
I am a work at home mom that sells LuLaRoe while also taking care of my 2.5 year old and shuttling my two 13 year olds back and forth to school. My husband and I like to garden and have always wanted to have chickens. We currently by organic eggs from a local mass production farm but decided to start our own flock so we could know exactly what our chickens were eating and we subsequently were getting from their eggs.
The chicks are currently in a brooder that I made out of an old wood file cabinet. We are deciding on a plan for the coop and run and will be building it over the next few weeks that we have until they need to be moved out of their brooder.
I’m excited to be here and look forward to reading everyone’s stories about their flocks. I’ve learned quite a bit already even before I joined. Cheers!

We are glad you joined our flock.
When you choose the coop you want to build, just go ahead and double that size right at the start! It will save you a bunch of work down the road, cause chickens are addicting!
