I'm trying to do as much research as possible before I start raising my chick at the beginning of april. I have read a few books, talk to people around my area and done a lot of online research.
I'm trying to research alternative ways to feed the chickens when I do get them. However living in MN I'm not sure how easy that will be. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you

Our Feeding and Watering Your Flock forums is a great place to ask questions and read about what others are feeding. There is a nice thread on fermenting feeds for chickens. Lots of our members ferment feed and say it is really a great way to feed your flock. You can also do some reading in our learning center as well as there is a section on feeding your flock too.

Great to have you aboard and enjoy BYC!

See if you have a meetup group for BYC. I am new too. My 3 girls just started laying eggs. In St Louis we have a meetup group that has been very helpful helping me through my first winter.
