Hello,

My husband and I just bought some hens and a rooster. 6 Black Austrolop pullets (kept in separate pen), 1 each Silver, Gold and Blue tipped Wyandotte, Amauracana, Brahma hens and our rooster is a Buff Orpington. I'm new at it but my husband has had chickens before. I'm really excited and very intrigued by our visits to several places to buy our girls and received the boy for free. The runs were each different but worked for the owners.

We have 2 of our girls the Brahma and the Blue Wyandottes out of the same hen house, they seem to be the ones picked on the most. The Rooster was pecking at the Brahma also. Is this normal behavior?

so glad you have joined us.

I don't have experience with roosters but have heard the BO's are quite gentile.

The lower ones in the pecking order will always get a few pecks. But if you are seeing aggressive pecking, then I would suggest posting under "managing your flock" forum to get experienced opinions.

But if not aggressive and no one is getting injured, they likely are just working out the pecking order.
