I've never had much luck hatching my own turkeys, but this year is my break out year! I have a hen who actually chose to lay make her nest and lay her eggs in the designated broody area (instead of over the fence, and out in the woods somewhere). She's been so dedicated to her eggs that I've only seen her off the nest once, though I'm sure she's been off more then that, she's sneaky about being off those eggs. Anyway, I've been getting super excited "my eggs are supposed to hatch on Wednesday, yay me!". I went into town to get a new thermometer for my new to me incubator, came home and went to the coop to check on all my broodies (4 total, omg) and found this:

Sitting there just like that, staring at me in all of its adorable glory. So, of course I say "Aw, how cute are you!?!" And as soon as I spoke, out popped this:

I can't wait to see how many more hatch, my hen has 5 more turkey eggs and 12 chicken eggs under her. How exciting!

Hi!
How exciting! This is my first year of hatchlings from my crew that I got last Spring....and within the last two weeks I've gotten little ones too (not the silkies...got them a month ago from the farmstore and I keep them with the babies to teach them how to eat and drink). Here are four of the 12! They like to hide when they hear me coming....lol.Here are a few more......

And this morning a broody chicken suprised me with a poult AND a guinea baby...lol, my first guinea from my flock and I was shocked at how tiny it was compared to the day old poults...I forgot they are very tiny...haha.

(just noticed that poult on the left looks a little deadish but it's just sleeping.

I've had a few more hatch out, and thought I heard an egg crack open while I was back there the last time. Here's a few more pics :D
This is such a cute little poult, I have no idea where the light coloring came from though. My hen and tom look similar, and they aren't light

Double cuteness

I thought this was the same poult pictured in my original post, but its got different colored legs and feet

So that puts me at 5 now. I'm so hoping the other 2 eggs hatch!

The proud mama with a couple of the babies ;)

TammyP- you're poults are cute as buttons, especially the deadish looking one!

I just love babies! lol.

Did you say you had 12 chick eggs under that hen also? The double cuteness are chickies...what breed are they?

I haven't had any variation on my bourbon reds....they all look like the bourbon reds....ha.

If that one in the first picture on this last post is a turkey like you said, then maybe it's that rare albino thing going on??

I have a couple of guinea eggs under one of my turkey hens and I'm so afraid she will crush it but so far they look intact...the guinea hen crawls right under the turkey and lays her egg and then gets out of there....lol.

Correct, she has 12 Cochin eggs under her as well. Those little yellow babies definitely aren't Cochins. My pair are mixed breeds-mixed with what, I haven't got a clue- but I guess that's why the chicks are so different.

Ya for you ! How exciting. I am hoping for a good hatch from my turkey hens to, they have 14 eggs between them ( best I can count any way ) My first attempt at hatching my own turkey eggs, i got 7 poults, mine are varied colors also since the hens are mixed breeds. Your hen looks a lot like mine, golden phoenix hens and a standard bronze tom. Porters rare turkeys has a lot of pictures and information on pure breeds and mixed breeds.
