As our screen name says we are new to raising chickens. However we both come from families that had chickens (grandparents). So we know what we are getting into. We also have 2 Black Labs (Duke & Duchess), and 4 Rabbits (Honey, Midnight, Sorry and Gabby). Oh I almost forgot...we have 4 teenagers ranging in age from 16 to 19.
We finally finished the coop yesterday and went to pick up our first chickens!! Very exciting!!! A neighboring farmer gave us his chickens when he heard we were interested in getting some of our own.
We now have 7 Dominique hens and 1 Barred Rock Rooster. And we have ordered 8 more Dominiques (straight run) from Ideal that are shipping out on the 22nd.
We cannot wait for the chicks to arrive!!!! Hubby is so excited he is taking a half day off today to come home and play with the chickens.
WOW!! I just realized I not only get fresh eggs...I also get husband sitters as well!!!
