Just wondering how long do your.....

I can't really say I keep track of how many rolls of tp we go through in a given time frame. I do know, I like to get Cottonelle, because I don't need my behind scratched when I wipe. I like it soft. Going to WalMart or Target are best for prices on that.

However, I DO track laundry soap. I use BioQuest powder from Amway(Quixtar). It is the best laundry soap and I will use it until I die because it works SO good and I don't use much of it per load. One very small scoop will wash a huge load. I prewash the worst stains, but most stuff, it takes right out. I go through about 3 9-pound boxes a year!!!! and there are 5 of us in this house ages 9.75-46.75. It seems expensive, but I actually save a lot of money buying that over the powders and liquids at the stores.

Soap? We use the liquid stuff, and I am switching back. My kids waste it. AND go to goldenpuppy for hand-crafted soaps! Hers are amazing!!!!! Pretty and they work great and smell great too.

I had heard this same tip years ago also. Been doing it ever since. So when I get the package of soap home I unwrap all of them and then just stack them in the hall linen closet.

Years ago somebody told me that you should take your bar soap out of the box and let it harden/air dry, from the moment you bring it home from the store. I think the idea was that the soaps with moisturizer in them are partly "cleansing cream", which is a liquid, and liquids liquefy more quickly than solids. That is, they melt faster. So, if you air dry them for a good bit before you use them, they supposedly last longer. Theoretically. Nothing in my house lasts long....I have two teenager/young adults. Don't get me started on toilet paper, or milk.

DW believes that bar soaps end up 'caking' the pipes and causes clogs.

She buys liquid soap for the sinks and showers. We go through a lot.

hahahaha funny thread! You guys must not measure your liquids. For laundry I always filled the cap and dumped it in. WAY TOO MUCH. Measure that like the directions say, it'll go farther.

Body wash.... quarter sized drop! Don't ice over the loufa with it like you're decorating a cake. WAY TOO MUCH.

Most face wash... dime sized. You can get 3 months from a medium sized bottle of face wash, washing twice a day.

Deodorant.. if you find you're rolling it on 6 swipes at a time, switch brands. 2 swipes is all once you find your perfect type.

Bar soap... ever hear of the bar soap fairies? They smell better than the sock fairies. Be sure you don't store it when shower spray hits it, it'll just melt away when you're not even touching it every time someone takes a shower.

TP.. fold it, don't wad it or wrap your arm clear to your elbow. Children use too much normally. Makes a great cat toy, so keep the bathroom door shut.

I spend the most on paper towels. I'm trying and trying to teach my husband to use them less because they're like instant garbage. My dad became paper towel free last year. Trying to reduce items bought solely to throw away.

My laundry soap last for ever now.....especially just for the 2 of us. I buy it from Melaleuca and it is one pump per full load or partial pump for smaller load.

We do go through a lot of tp too lately but only if because it is Walmarts cheap crap. I love the Costco tp Ohand it last us like 4-5 months for a pack of it. It is good quality too. Don't know if it is worth going just for that though :/ but I want to. Almost worth it to me to not have to buy it or worry about it for 4-5 months.

That is a lot of the reason I get the stuff I do from Melaleuca comes by mail right to my door. I don't have to lug all that stuff from the store to here. Also it is is chemical free and can be cheap if you use it right!
Oh I so agree about the Costco TP!

It lasts so much longer than the TP from the grocery store. Also I like their shampoo/conditioner (Kirkland).

This could be true...my DH's cousin says that they tried switching to all homemade powder laundry detergent (made from shaved soap, etc.) and it clogged the septic pipes...had to do some work on it. They live in NM. I presume that he knows it was definitely the problem??

I use the same homemade laundry detergent once in awhile but mainly use regular powder. I am careful to not exclusively use it.

One thing I do is to buy the "bubble bath" large containers of soap and refill the hand dispensers that way. I choose flavors such as honey milk, cucumber melon, and other nice-smelling fragrances. Then a container lasts for about 2-3 months in one bathroom I am guessing.

When my mom bought bars of soap she would put them in the freezer .. claimed it made the soap last longer..

I make my own lye soap.. a well cured bar lasts forever.. makes my skin feel much better than that store bought stuff too

Never long, there are five of us. My husband is a soldier and ends up quite dirty sometimes, then he likes to fish and hunt which also can be quite dirty. And nevermind the kids running around outside and playing with the dogs.

I don't buy paper towels or napkins typically. We just use regular washcloths or hand towels if we need them. I do have some napkins and I will save them but usually from eating out. :)
