Just wondering how old before a roo crows???

My large fowl usually wait until they are about 4 months before they start - but I do have a roo, who is 7 months and just starting to try - he sounds more like he is crying.

I have a couple 9 week old bantam roos who are now strangling a "Yerrrer" or two in the morning.

It varies - and it's hard to predict even by breed.

I've got a Marans cockerel that's been crowing since he was five weeks old. I had another last year that didn't crow until he was almost SIX MONTHS old. Of course, there were two older roos around that year...

our little BR guy (that was supposed to be a girl) just let a few go for the first time yesterday morning. he was at it again this morning. funny as heck!

MY BO roo is now 12 weeks and I've heard him make some "roostery" noises, especially when his girls wander off out of his sight. Nothing close to a full on crow yet though. I'm hoping he just fails to learn so my neighbors don't hate us... LOL

I've had a cockerel chick crow at about 2 wks old; I've had another one utter nary a peep til he was 7 months old.

10-16 wks is a typical timeframe, though.

We have two roo's. Our polish was full grown and crowing when we got him. Our leghorn well he crowed at 5 months 7 days! Yes I keep track of every single chick, hen, duck, turkey etc born in our house with their progress! It's all on my computer.

You can say I am crazy chicken lady, my friends do, lol!

My OEGB roos started "crowing" at around 3 weeks or so. It sounded like a rusty screen door, but it was adorable. My D'Uccle roos didn't start until around 8 weeks, and they sound like someone stretching the mouth of a balloon and slowly letting the air out

They sound more "goose-like" than rooster at this point.

I have a cockerel that is 8 months old, and hasnt made a peep. We have 4 other roosters around that are crowing every morning, I keep expecting to hear him but Im still waitin.
