My Splash Orp Rooster has developed an eye problem of some kind. In the corners of his eyes, he has a bunch of little bubbles, as well as crusties. I have done a BYC search, as well as surfed the net, and from what I have gathered, it could be a vitamin A deficiency, or a sinus infection. Is that right??? Also, as I was holding him, he layed his head on my shoulder, which in and of itself is not enirely unusual, but then he closed his eyes, and started breathing with his mouth open, making little gargly (sp) noises. Respiratory problem? We have noticed some sneezing and runny, er... beaks, throughout our flock, but thought that we were just micromanaging, and that it was really nothing. We now have a different opinion, LOL. Anyone here have experience with this type of thing? Is it life threatening? I have read that Poly Vi Sol can help, but is there anything else we can do? Thanks for any advice!

It is the start of a sinus infection most likely, there is a water soluble drug called LS-50 that will knock it right out but it is pricey. Pen-G, Tylan 50 or Tylan 200 will also work very well. I wouldn't even try the Terramycin as it won't do the trick. Are you comfortable with giving injections?
