Tylisia awoke from a long, much-needed nap. She stood up in the pile of downy feathers and looked around the hospital nest. She stretched her wings, especially the injured one, which was still a little numb. She gently preened the feathers around the sticky moss paste, which it looked to her like Mrs. Netricia had slathered on another layer while she was asleep.
Today was a very windy day, and the gusts kept blowing in through the entrance. Tylisia watched with entertainment as the downy feathers were scattered everywhere, and couldn't help but giggle when Mrs. Netricia came slithering out in a hurry to block the entrance with a slab of tree bark.
"Oh dear, oh dear, what a windy day it is!" She gasped after she had put the piece of bark over the entrance. She shook her head and mumbled something to herself as she looked around at all the downy feathers, which had been neat and organized before, but now were floating around the hollow, scattered everywhere. Then, she sighed and began sweeping them back the way they had been with her scaly snake tail, paying special attention to re-fluff the piles that were used as beds, just like what Tylisia had been resting on.
Tylisia yearned restlessly to be outside of the hospital nest, gliding on the wind. It was such a windy day, and it was perfect for flying because the gusts of wind would carry her high above the trees without her even flapping her wings twice. The fall leaves were being blown about, twisting and floating innthe wind, and one of her favorite things to do was to fly with them and catch as many as she could with her talons. When her claws were too full to hold anymore, she would fly up very high above the trees, and toss them in the air, watching as they scattered in the wind and flying through them as they fluttered to the ground.
But for now, she couldn't fly at all unless she wanted to hurt her wing even more, and cause even more damage. Then there was a possibility that she would never be able to properly fly again, and she would much rather wait a week before flying to let her wing fully heal, than to fly too soon and permanently damage it. She used this thought as a reminder because it was the only thing that helped her flight temptations to temporarily go away.
