Just like Tylisia did!
)
Tylisia ruffled her feathers and re-tucked her beak under wing as she stood in her cozy tree hollow, snuggled up beside Jay. Both of them were asleep, and though the air was freezing outside, their body heat and thick feathers locked in heat and they had plenty of warmth inside the sheltered hollow. A very thin layer of icy snow lay on the ground now, and the air was dry and chilly. The giant pond that was in the kingdom had begun to freeze over already, and any streams or rivers did the same. Though it was a very thin layer of ice, so the bald eagles that often visited the kingdom could still easily break through the ice and catch their fish.
Though she was asleep, in her little pocket of heat beneath the thick layer of feathers, Tylisia's ears could still pay full attention to any sounds around her. Like most owls, even when she was asleep, she wasn't truly asleep. She heard the far-off screech of a distressed long-eared owl, and her eyes flickered open immediately. She glanced around, then looked at Jay, whom was snuggled up against her for warmth. His eyes were open as well; large and bright, flashing in the moonlight and looking about in curiosity.
Tylisia hissed quietly, "Did you hear that?" Though she already knew the answer.
Jay hissed back, "Yes. It sounded like a long-eared owl is distressed. I wonder why..." Tylisia blinked, then silently walked over to the entrance of the hollow. She stuck her heart-shaped face out and peered around...Though it was completely dark, she could see perfectly fine, as if it were daytime. She stepped out and sat on the branch that was right outside of the hollow entrance.
"Good evening, Tylisia." A cheery voice hooted to her. She jumped in surprise, before realizing it was Nurse Netricia, the nurse snake at the hospital nest. She was curled up into a ball on a branch in a separate tree that was nearby, her old face smiling kindly.
"Oh, it's only you, Nurse Netricia." Tylisia giggled at herself for acting so jumpy.
"Yes, I didn't mean to startle you, dear." She chuckled.
Tylisia cooed, "Nurse Netricia, did you happen to hear a distressed owl screech just a moment ago?" Tylisia said wearily.
"Oh, don't worry about that, dear. It was only a little squabble between two young, male long-eared owls. Defending their territory, I heard." Nurse Netricia assured her.
"Ah, I see. I was just coming out here to investigate. Thank you, and good night." Tylisia said.
"Sleep well, dear." Nurse Netricia replied.
Tylisia stepped back into the hollow and went back to the spot where she had been sleeping. She explained to Jay what Nurse Netricia had said to her; he nodded and tucked his beak back into his feathers. Tylisia did the same, and once again the forest was silent. But not for long, because soon enough many of the owls would awake and take flight in the darkness for their night hunt. Soon, screeches and rustling leaves would replace the current silence in the air as prey scattered and hid from the deadly claws above.
You're back! With your very long posts...
Sabio hopped to the enterance of Sanga's hollow (where she had been moved,) and glided down to a nearby branch, a small tuff of down falling off of her back. "Sabio, don't leave the hollow! It's too cold out." Sanga called. Sabio came back up. Galing hopped around the nest, peeping loudly.
I saw that this thread had come back to life, and it gave me something to write because since it was dying before, I couldn't write anything...I had no inspirations. Now, I do.
