Kalona, Iowa. Poultry, small animal & consignment auction.

Yeah, the last time I went it was snowing. They sold real fast as there was only a pot bellied pig, pigeons, I think 3 pens of chickens, and then my duck. It wasn't a total waste of time for us as we buy our feed in Kalona and needed to buy feed that day. When the weather is nice there are a lot more birds and other animals there and also more buyers for your animals

Hope to see you at one sometime.

Nope the next one is THIS wednesday.

Weather is going to be nice so there is a chance we will go. I don't think I will bring anything to sale this time. I haven't been in over a month and I want to see what it looks like and how big a crowd shows up. I won't be buying anything there if we do go just looking. We need more feed so we might as well go check out the sale on our feed run:D

ETA: LOL They spelled my duck breed wrong. I just found the sale report. It has been 2 whole months since we went. (Dec. 10th) EEKS! We go to Kalona more than that but I guess it really has been 2 months since we've been to the sale. The last one I went to was the report that shows "Muscobe" Ducks $10.00 As you can see it was a real small sale that day.

ETA: Today's Sale. Nasty Rainy Day. Chickens $1.25 average for roosters penned in groups of 6 (There were 2 pens). $4.00 for laying hens on average (They were Red Stars 75 of them but only 24 sold the rest went home as NO Sale). Rabbits $3.00 each on average for the large breeds. One pen of dwarf rabbits that went for $1.00 a rabbit. Not that much there. Someone brought in about 5 Scovies that went for $5-$9 a duck. I got 3 bottle goats that are only a day old for almost nothing. Going try to raise them but not getting too attached because at that young age they could get sick easy. I've raised bottle lambs before but never raised goats. We might resale 2 of them later or raise them up to butcher depending on if they stay healthy or not. They are all bucks. Somebody said a few weeks ago they had lots and lots of bottle bucks they just gave away free at the auction. Wait until it is warm and sunny. There will be more animals and more people there.

I'm stuck working. Maybe I'll be "sick" one of these Wednesdays and run down there. Let us know what the crowd is like!

I went. Sold a pair of Scovies and brought home three bottle baby kids. There were a lot of bottle babies yesterday. We were running late:( so we did not get to see the sheep sale or the very beginning of the poultry auction. I would have bought the Buttercups had I seen them:( I need a Buttercup rooster for my 2 girls I got last year because the old rooster sadly did not make it through winter. I can't go next week:( have an appointment in Iowa City at 10:00 am. Hope to be there the week after next

Hey Farmgirlie - I didn't go, but do have the buttercup pair that I am looking to sell. The rooster had his comb frost bitten this year and doesn't have too many points left on it. If you want, I can get a picture of him and send to ya. Do you go to Cedar Rapids ever?
