Kate in New Mexico

My name is Kate, I live in New Mexico and I've had chickens for less than a year. I've wanted them for longer, but apartment living is not conductive to chicken ownership so I bought them once we moved out to a small acreage. I have only 4 hens. I wanted to thank everyone for how helpful they are. Summer's heat and the chickens lack of resistance to it kind of hit my by surprise and a vent/pecking issue that I'm sure was relatively minor completely set me spinning. All the great experience, support and helpful advice on this forum has helped me to keep my girls safe and feel like this former city girl has a chance of raising chickens in a humane manner. For new people like me, your support makes all the difference.

Hi! even though you joined a fair few months ago.

We only have a few chooks too, and live in the suburbs, I think having backyard chickens is a great experience, and the eggs are fantastic.

For summer heat you should try watermelon. Chickens love to eat watermelon.
