Kate plus 8...chicken episode....so funny

I think her coop is very cute--WAY too small for 16 chickens, but cute...oh wait...17 chickens because there was a rooster, too!

I didn't mean this to be Kate bashing.....I just thought the show was funny. I have never watched a full episode before but had to watch this one.
Boy....she really is controlling isn't she? But she knows that and is proud of it so it's not really bashing to say it.

Hopefully, she will come on here to get infomation because she was not told the facts about real chickens.

The Amish guy was not Old World Amish. because he would have allowed the camera to film him. But Amish farmers do not consider their chickens pets like we do and might not see a problem with putting 16+ chickens in a coop that size. Their chickens free range anyway so the coop is just for sleeping and laying eggs.

Anyone in her area of PA available to offer help to her? BYC to the rescue!!

I think they must have been Mennonite, because they were driving a vehicle and wearing short sleeves, but Kate kept saying Amish. And I couldn't believe he let her wear his hat, and they even got him without the hat on camera! Amish and Mennonite farmers are exempt from following any sort of government guidelines concerning farming, including space requirements, so they may be farming more "old-school" style, and perhaps Kate didn't realize this. The coop was really cute though and well planned-out, as small as it was.

Haven't watched the show in a while, but I did watch this one. I thought it was funny Kate thought her little guys could carry a 3 gallon waterer when full. I also didn't think that saying it would be a punishment to clean up after the chickens was the best idea either. Hopefully Kate will do more research and chicken keeping will be a great thing and not just a novelty to her family.

I've never really liked Kate since my sister started to watch the show a couple years back, but you guys don't have to get all willy nilly bashing on her. If she sees this thread, she'll never join the forums. I like the idea of getting her to join BYC, maybe someone could send her an email? I recall that she did read them, or at least got someone to do it for her.

Anywho, I think the chickens are cuties but agree that she she has no idea that they take actual work.I have a RL friend near me who wants them bc she wants a farm atmosphere...so she is coming here soon to see what chickens are really like bc I know she wont want them when she see's how much care they take LOL.
But ,hopefully all the viewer emails she gets daily will lead her in the right direction and she will get a bigger coop for them and maybe a bigger rooster LOL!

but......... i couldnt imagine having 16 chickens and 8 kids
