The BA were supposed to be Dominiques but Cackle said they didn't hatch. The BA were a last-minute sub. So now I have 15 black chickens running around my back yard looking like a scene from Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, lol!

I love dark colored birds! It may be an old wives tale but I've also heard that black chickens fare a little bit better against hawks because hawks mistake them for Crows, I also have black cats I just love cute "spooky" animals haha that's why I went with a lot of the black Birchen Marans, black/blue splash ameraucana and the granite Olive Eggers and the exchequer Leghorn, I think I'll only have two birds the lavender easter eggers that are fully light colored out of my 11 currently but the four ameraucana will be white with Bluey Blacky gray Speckles everywhere. We love a hitchcockian flock

One day I hope to have a pair of black or atleast dark furred donkeys as well!

They spent all day outside! they went out when it was 35° this morning at 8:00 a.m. and they came in when it was 40° at 4:00 p.m. today even while it was snowing! one or two more days of this to get through the snow in the forecast this week and then they're outside permanently!

Chickens first snow! none in their run of course but they're very interested in the half foot and counting outside!
