I recall being on vacation in Germany 30ish years ago. Not a hog in sight but pork is a major staple meat there. I don't know if they were in massive warehouses or just large barns. Similarly barely a cow to be see in Wisconsin, the "Dairy State", a few years back when DD2 was going to school there. All indoors in large barns.

Cows, cows everywhere. And plenty to see.

Seriously. You couldn't drive 10 miles on the backroads without seeing holsteins out to pasture.
