I can’t even look at the cats right now. Several quail don’t have toes or toenails. But the leg missing?! How does his stuff even happen :th
I wouldn't look at them.
I left newborn ducklings in a brooder for a day without the cover and my very curious cats abstained from eating them, though one did sit on the Ecoglow. Why would your cats do it? What do you think did it?

I don’t know if they did it, but what else would have? There is nothing else that could have. Unless it was a fox, but that’s unlikely

I think it is pretty likely. Foxes do this kind of thing all the time, no matter where you live.

Just because your cat doesn't kill a duck, doesn't mean others won't.
Cats are predators, it is in their nature to kill. Cats, especially outdoor cats or those raised without the knowledge that chickens/quails are friends, will kill/or severely injure them.
It very well likely could be her cat/s that did it.
