Just because your cat doesn't kill a duck, doesn't mean others won't.
Cats are predators, it is in their nature to kill. Cats, especially outdoor cats or those raised without the knowledge that chickens/quails are friends, will kill/or severely injure them.
It very well likely could be her cat/s that did it.

Still, I was explaining that wasn't the only possibility. In a very poorly reasoned way.
