For whatever reason, the 18 chicks I ordered from a hatchery (which are now approaching six weeks old) are so tame. Whenever I go into their coop to feed and water them they’ll follow me and let me pet them. Which is weird because I never held them all that much when they were still in the brooder.

Maybe they just know your good to your animals and trust you 😊

Some breeds are calmer than other, right? The two Marans we had let me pick the up all the time, maybe that's why I like them.
That’s true. I knew the buff Orpingtons would be pretty nice but I’m surprised at how friendly the New Hampshire reds are.

Did you change what birds you had? I've heard of the Buff Orpington, but not the New Hampshire reds. Did you want birds that are calmer?

I just have crested cream legbars, buff orps, and NH reds now. The birds being calm is just a plus. :D NH reds are very similar to Rhode Island Reds.

Okay, see I'm learning about all these breeds that we don't have. If life ever calms down and we can get things done here, maybe I can get more Marans 😊.

My chicks grew surprisingly fast. And they’re so pretty. I need to get some updated pictures of them. Sexing was actually pretty accurate on the females. All 8 buffs are girls, and I ordered 5 female NH reds and 5 SR NH reds... I think there’s only 2 or 3 boys which is cool with me lol. One of the NH red girls is really big and pretty. ❤️
