Kayla’s Flock!

Pics
Yesterday and today my kids and I named some of our muscovy ducks. Just a handful of them. My favourite name is Deanna Warhammer. (This is what happens when you have 4 sons, Lol!)

You did a great job on downsizing your flock! If the question "do I have more chickens than I can handle?" keeps popping in your head, and you keep pushing it away- you probably have more chickens than you handle :p

I have around 45 chickens right now, and am going to be rehoming 9 out of 11 roosters I have. And from there I am not going to add any more birds until they downsize themselves naturally :lol: I prefer a smaller flock, and 45 chickens is too many in my book- we have the room and money, quite frankly just no time.

:clap :goodpost::highfive:You’re 100% correct! :thumbsup

I won't know if I've got the right number for me until I can ID all the cockerels. If the ratio is the same as it was last year I should be just about right with chickens, I'm light on turkeys and have too many toms, light on ducks and have too many drakes. Those problems I'll rectify by spring.

Wonderful plan! :goodpost:

I still need more electronet and solar energizers, more grow out pens and more pasture. Today I discovered the home depot about 40 miles away rents skidders. Clearing pasture by hand is a pain especially for an old fart.:old I have hundreds of 8-10' trees about 2" in diameter that need to be removed and shredded. This farm hasn't been farmed in like 15 years so there's lots of clean up work to be done. And I still want a bandsaw mill. Though it has the potential of adding a revenue stream, I'd like it for my own enjoyment. I love working with wood. Building furniture or custom cabinets is the ultimate stress reliever.

You sound like quite the worker!
