Lol. Definitely keep pondering dog breeds. You seem to be down between two breeds. Go with your heart. There's always another dog in the future.

Lol yup! I feel like I would have a better bon with an Aussie but that first vid the BC seems pretty attached to that girl so idk. Are Aussies pretty obedient and/or friendly? Like that I could take it places and it wouldn't cause a problem? Like on walks or out and about town or in pet friendly stores or cafes or whatever? They're not too aggressive right? Just need tons of socialization? And they're pretty obedient? Like would listen to most of the important commands the first time? I really care about recall. That has been such a challenge with all our dogs. They come when they want to. And how about off leash hiking?

And side note but I was just telling my mom about you cause she said where was I talking about all this dog stuff and I said Backyard Chickens :lau and then I was telling her how there's this real nice lady on there who has some Aussies and all about how awesome and nice and helpful you are and all of the animals you have :lau

I have always found it amazing when people put so much work and time into training for tricks. I must be lazy. It never appealed to me to do it, but it's cool to see it, and to watch them do it all.

Nah, you're not lazy! It's not for everyone and plus it's very time consuming and you're a very busy lady! :p

But yeah, it is really cool to watch! Though I doubt I'd ever be able to teach that many lol

My Aussies have never not come when I called, well maybe they linger to smell a chicken poop. Aussies can be wary of strangers and protective if you don't remain the dominant one. They aren't all that way though. Each of my 3 have been different, but the same in many ways.

Mine are pretty friendly after that initial wariness. I do think if pressed they would protect me, or at least try. Socializing is important, to get them used to new stuff and people. Mine are definitely not aggressive.

I have always expected my dogs not to act like filthy animals when we go out. My dogs are the best behaved at the vets. That's about the only place mine go these days. Mine are excellent off leash. Getting the right puppy is important, than properly socialising is next in importance.

I will say both show bred Aussies were hard to house break for some reason. Could be in the way they were kept as puppies. The older working one was simple and easy. Otherwise they have been all pretty easy going. My dogs always get plenty of exercise which helps a lot in having calm dogs.

It is hard to pick between the breeds for sure. Maybe in your search you will find exactly what you are looking for. That happens a lot for me with dogs. I'm looking for this, and than I find that. :yesss:

Glad you think I'm a nice lady. :old,,,,,:ya

They sound like amazing dogs if I find the right puppy/breeder and sozialize them extensively and train well, all of which I would definitely do and planning on taking classes too which I think would help and doing way more socialization than most do cause I've been reading lots of articles on it and how important it is and have a book. And not just people and dogs but everything, like feeding in different containers and locations, exposed different toys and floor surfaces, etc. Like tons of different, weird, new things. "Scary" things (but of course safe and positive experiences), new places, etc. I'm gonna take it tons of new places once a week or even every day or something. Even if it means carrying them or put in a shopping cart till vaccines are done.

Wow best behaved at the vet? That's impressive lol

Huh, that's weird. Was the working line one raised outside?

Mine would definitely be getting lots of exercise but also, possibly more importantly, tons of mental stimulation with all the training, tricks, and sports I'll be doing lol

Very true, I am sure the right dog will find me.

And you are very nice!! And knowledgeable.

Sounds like any puppy you pick will be well taken care of. What the breeder does with them too can help as far as getting them used to stuff, though Frankie the older Aussie was 3 months when I got her and had never left her pen.

It was hard work getting her straightened around. The one good thing about her and her situation was she talks dog well, an by observing her I learned a lot about dog communications. She has since become the perfect dog except for enjoying being bossy with the rest of my girls.

Perhaps she was easier to house break because she was a bit older?

I hate going to the vet and there's dogs jumping, lunging, whining, and generally just being obnoxious. Mine sit quietly. The secret is to ignore them. Petting or talking to them in that hyped up state rewards the behavior. I always want to tell people to stop say good boy or girl to a dog acting dumb.

Thank you, I appreciate that. I would definitely try! Glad Frankie got turned around and yes I bet being older made house training significantly easier!

Huh, that's brilliant lol I do try to tell my dad that sometimes, he's trying to pet him or be like sit sit sit I'm like ignore him and he will lay down. Same for when Libby begs when guests come over and I'm like by talking to her, even to discipline, you're giving her what she wants lol she only does it outside on the deck, inside she lays on her bed.

Btw, 25 hours isn't THAT far, right!? :lau

Oh goodness. It was a long trip to get Sunny who was about 4 hours away. :th,,,:gig

Lol 4 hours is nothing. We drive 2-3 a lot to go to NH and have driven 5 hours for a Christian music festival in Maine. We've gone the last 2 or 3 years lol although we usually stop in Portland, 2 hours away, for the night.

Although flying might just be easier. But by driving... fun experience AND excellent jumpstart on puppy socialization :p :lau
