Keep a clean coop

So you did!
I take it you aren't a chicken licker?
I also take it that you pay attention to the yearly "my chickens are going to give me the trots" fiasco that is the great salmonella scare 2019.
Of course not to be mistaken with 2018,17,16,15 etc.
Never ceases to amaze me people continue to panic year after year.
The shock value just never gets old.:caf
As I stated previously in this thread, common sense is endangered. I actually have begun calling it uncommon sense.

Don't get worked up about it.
They repost the same article every year nearly word for word.
It is like a bottomless candy bowl for hysterical people.
Wash your hands, don't lick your chickens.
There is about 95% of the risk gone, easy peasy.
If a person can't do these things then by all means panic.:)

I did wash my hands but then I licked a chicken...:hmm Am I gonna die???

The guy in the white suit made me do it.

Curse you Mr. Sanders and that tasty chicken!

I use sand in my 10' X 14' run. Each morning I use a long handled kitty litter scoop that I got on Amazon and a small galvanized bucket from TSC to clean up the run and coop. Takes about a total of 5 minutes (I have 3 hens) and I have never had smell nor fly issues. The bucket contents go right into my nearby compost pile and will eventually break down for my vegetable garden. Win-Win!
I run my coop the same way, sand, kitty litter scoop and daily pickups. Agree it only takes 5 minutes for 12 hens worth of poop. After 5 years with this system I have never had smell, flies or parasites of any kind on my girls. Saves all the time for scrubbing for those nesting boxes. Anybody got any great ideas for them?!
