So about 3 months ago some of my friends asked if they could hatch some duck eggs and thinking 'Hey, that would be cool' I said sure. Only 2 out of 16 hatch... One hen and one drake... Our pekin hen was born with a deformed foot so it makes it hard to keep up with our khakis so she normally stays behind with our pekin drake that hatched with her... The pekin drake just found his voice and is starting to get interested in mating. But the problem is i dont have enough hens for him since we were attacked my foxes and snatched up most of our ducks.. So now i'm faced with this.. Should i sell him or keep him..? I would be able to buy some pekin hens for him next year but will my hen pekin deal with him through the entire fall/winter? I love the guy. Hes very sweet and comes up to you for a scratch every time you enter the run... But i really dont want to put my female pekin through much so what should i do? And if i do keep him would i have to separate them once he starts mating?

I definitely think you should keep him I would start looking now for hens though! Some people think they want them then get rid of them...:barnie For the separation I would say maybe if it's to much for her to handle...;)

We've got plenty of pens to keep them separate in. The only thing is i dont want them getting depressed since they wouldn't be together... As for more hens i'm searching on craigslist and all that i can think of for adult hen ducks but its looking like i'll have to get some ducklings early in the spring instead.. Thanks for the reply!
