Keeping 2 week olds cool

Yup today has been truly miserable at work. I work outside luckily it was in somewhat of a shady area today but was 98° with heat index between 105 and 110. Yuck. North Carolina is quite a bit like Virginia.

Every once in a while I will go out with a water bottle full of cold water and just give them a little mist. Just remembered that one. And should’ve added that before. I’ve also heard of people keeping small kitty pools or just small containers with just an inch or two of pool water at the bottom for them to stick their feet in. I tried that with mine they wanted nothing to do with getting their feet in the water but I know some people said their chickens like it

It's averaging bout 103-105 during the day here. I hose down the run and make them some mud two or three times a day. I make sure they always have full water containers with electrolytes, and make them frozen treats. I provide plenty of shade. And they still all want to run out in the sun and chase each other around the berry bushes until they're all panting, overheated and droopy, then they come back into the run, sprawl on a nice wet spot, have a drink of water, peck at some ice, and in five minutes they're ready to run again.

Now that’s hot. Our humidity level in the summer usually stays at least 70 to 80%. But 104 to 105 we don’t see too often and less it’s the heat index. I guess chickens are like little kids. It’s like they don’t even feel how hard it is when they’re running around playing and thenWear themselves out

They won't think to do it on their own. Keep putting them back in every now and then and they'll eventually get it. I taught one bird, so she would do it, but the others never followed suit. It seems you have to teach each bird individually.
