Keeping a few Cornish hens.................

Pics
I received my water nipples from Amazon today. I used a clear plastic quart jar and installed one nipple on each side and in front. I will let the new chicks play with it tomorrow. I highly recommend water nipples, it keeps the water clean and I don't have to fill it as often. The first and second batch are already using them, so I know only 2 to 3 nipples are required for 8 chicks.

I use a 5 gallon bucket with 4 nipples for 8 adult chickens. Two in front and one on each side., none on back side.

Thanks for updating us, how fast do you believe your CornishX cross chicks are growing compared to CornishX and compared to Dual Purpose breeds?
I caught a cold, so I can't go out and weigh them. In addition, I have been restricting their food consumption, I fill their food tray in the am and don't refill it in the evening. 8 chicks outside are eating about a pint of crumble a day.

I think some of them may start growing faster than others, I can tell by how thick their leg shank look and they also have low to the ground body stature. In comparison, regular heritage breeds have high stature and normal size leg shanks.

I believe that if you design a good feeding plan next time for your CronishX hens they will last longer and give you many more chicks.

I am going to try this recipe tonight with a 3 lbs Breese cross.........

I am going to try this recipe next with another young 3 lbs bird. I really enjoyed the previous soy sauce chicken.

I was worried that one of the newer chicks did not know how to use the water nipples.. However, after I elevated the water container off the peat and placed it on a 1 inch thick round platform, I saw him join the water drinking party. I am relieved that all my chicks know how to use the water nipples.

Pictures of All of the F1 chicks please
There are 2 pure Breese males and 2 Cornish X chicks that hatched a week latter, so the 3 older ones are a little bigger. The two pure Breese chicks has steel blue legs and the other 5 Cornish x/Breese has yellow with patches of blue on their legs.

They act like regular chickens, jumping up and down on the perch and foraging out of their pen in the am.
