My first flock is nearing 5 weeks old. One so far is a cockerel, an Easter Egger. I've a few posters who said a rooster who grew up with his flock mates make horrible roosters. That they're almost tyrannical bullies who are over enthusiastic with the hens. I can keep my dominance over him but I do worry about the fact that he'll mature faster than the pullets. Anyone have luck in this situation with a cockerel?

All my roosters have grown up with their flockmates and they all have been perfect gentlemen with the hens once they get over their hormonal teenage stage. All roosters are individuals, so just keep an eye on him, but chances are that he will be fine with them once his hormones settle. At first he's probably going to be a little rough with them but if you have enough hens for him there probably won't be any injuries.
