Keeping chicken coop cool, when there is no shade.

When I built my chicken, I faced a major problem. I have no trees on my 1 acre of land, so I had no natural shade for my chicken coop.

Here in Oregon, our temperatures rise into the upper 90's in late August and early September, so I needed a solution to keep my coop cool in the hot summer sun.

My solution; I built a roof on my coop that could be opened. I built 2 levels to my coop roof, the first level has 16 gauge fencing for protection from predators. The second level is made from plywood and sheet metal panels.
