Keeping Chickens Free Range

I consider these edible, They were not there on Monday and we have not been above 50 degrees all week. We have not had a day above 50 in 2 weeks. So I do not see it as being any different than being in the fridge.

when there was no electricity people used to keep eggs for about 40 days to save them for easter, why do we think that we cannot live without fridge? how did people survive for thousand of years? I never put eggs in the fridge, neither the veggies from my garden. they are healthier if kept on the fresh air.

That was alot of eggs where they shouldn't be Ralph. I would definitely cook those babies up. Your temps are low enough that they are good. I don't know about the 70 degree one personally. Although I know people who always leave the eggs on their counter and never have problems.

I can hear peeping from Ebony's nest!! I hope by tomorrow I can see the babies!
Good luck on the hatch!!

Hmm interesting how that quoted...

We were putting up guinea fowl containment fence today, I heard some sing the egg song. I saw where she was, and let her walk away about 20 minutes later we took a break to find her nest. We did not find her nest but we saw Ethel (turkey) sitting inside a barrel with both ends missing.

We left and wen back to fencing, Ethel left her nest and we saw two guinea go into the nest and sit down. They left and we decided it was time to see what was there.

I held Ethel in the coop, because she likes me to hold her and pet her. She falls asleep when I do this. My wife went to gather eggs. She got 10 chicken eggs, 7 turkey eggs and 1 guinea egg. Not a bad haul. We put the chicken eggs back someone will go broody and hatch them. The rest will go into the incubator.

Just saw 8 hawks circling the trees across the road. Freaked me out! Was out getting something from my mother in law and the chicks were with me. Betty saw them and screeched the Johann gave the danger cry and took off to the coop herding Betty along. Tiger either doesn't like being in the coop or just isn't afraid of anything. I had to shoo her along to get her up there and even then it took several minutes to get her into the coop. Silly bird. Proud of Johann though for getting his girls to safety.

I have two baby turkeys and two baby ducks that I got at the same time so they are inseparable. I have been letting them free range with the rest of my flock all week and they have been doing great. I have been carrying them to the coop and putting them in a separate box at night so they get used to sleeping in the coop. Last night I had to leave and didn't get back until it was dark and was worried about my babies but they did great. I went out to make sure everyone was in and close the coop door and the babies all made it in and found their own place in the coop. I'm a proud moma.
