I wouldn't think it would work out for long.....maybe for first week or two....nothing creates dust like chickens do....they scratch through the bedding all day long. On a wire bar type cage they are gonna fling bedding and poo out through the bars especially once they get to any size...they also lose their fuzz and get feathers and that also creates a fine dust that's not so great to breath. They'll outgrow the cage pretty quickly.
I make it a rule not to keep chicks in the house after they are a week old. Others keep chickens inside for longer some even keep them inside constantly...I have no idea how they can stand the dust.....
