keeping coyotes away from property

But has anyone ever used the product of wolf urine??

No, I’ve never used wolf urine, I bet it really stinks. I’ve used coyote urine to try to get rid of groundhogs, it did not work. I’ve used dog hair to protect certain plants from deer, it did not work. When working outside I have a certain private place I take care of certain liquid bodily functions when I’m working outside and don’t want to track muddy boots into the bathroom in the house. I often see mice, rats, snakes, and rabbits in that immediate area. Groundhogs once dug a den within 10 feet of that area. I often set up a live trap in that general area and catch raccoons and possum.

While that wolf urine might have a temporary effect, I am not a believer that there is any long term benefit to using products like that. Even if it doesn’t rain and wash it away, wild animals seem to pick up pretty quickly whether there is a real threat or not. You can try it and gain your own experience but personally I would not spend the money.

I’m not sure exactly what you are trying to protect. In my experience the only truly effective method is good barriers. The larger the area you are trying to protect the harder that is. For relatively small areas, like a lot of chicken runs, you can pretty much totally enclose them, but if that area gets very large, it becomes cost-prohibitive. The best thing I’ve found against any ground-based predator for large areas is electricity.

I use a live trap and occasionally shoot certain critters. While it will remove a specific animal that is hunting your property, it’s only one. There are practically always a lot more. It’s pretty normal for me to catch critters three or four nights in a row when I start setting my live trap. You can never get them all by shooting or trapping. Plenty of others are being weaned and setting out to find their own territory all the time. Removing some of the animals hunting your property does reduce the predator pressure so there are benefits to me but it does not eliminate it. Your best prevention is good barriers.
