Keeping Humidty up in Janoel 12 during "Lockdown"?

First hatches are intimidating but don't let it overwhelm you. Play it be eas. If it looks like they have pipped (broken through the shell) but it looks like the membranes are drying out, then humidity is too low. But you also don't want it to condensate too much because then it could drip on them and drown them.

I have a janoel 12. But it has an hygrometer-thermometer, maybe not to accurate so I put in another one to compare/average. I'm in a humid environment so I usually have problems getting humidity down. One thing I know will help is 4 or 5 paper towels folded up so resulting rectangle is a couple inches bigger than the bottom of the incubator. mash it down so the excess 2" rides up the side walls even a bit past your egg level grate, then add water to just below egg level. the towel will wick up water from bottom and you have more wet surface area to raise humidity. this works better than just the water surface you have without paper towel running up the sides. Probably to late for your surviving egg if your already in lock down. wet sponges can do the same. Good luck. The instructions on these are terrible so losing them was a good thing! You tube has some real good info on the janoel and or magic fly (same incubator) 12

Now that I think about it...it does not have an hygrometer just thermometer. You can by an inexpensive one on e bay with remote thermocouple for about 8 bucks. Mine works well just run the remote in through the air hole, zip tie it so it hangs a little lower than the one in there.

Well..It did come with instruction's, but knowing me I have placed them somewhere "Too safe"

So assuming the temp is fine should I go ahead and "Lock down" Once I master how to get the Humidity steady?

Try googling the manufacturer and model of your unit along with "user guide" and you should be able to find the manual. Also try checking the manufacturer's website and see if they have it posted there.

the instructions with these incubators are beyond worthless! They will leave you most likely more confused. There are very good instructions on youtube on different topics. search both Janoel 12 and magic fly 12. same incubator different names. I have use these incubators for several years they work well. You can buy a digital hygrometer for less than 10 bucks on ebay. get one that is' indoor/outdoor and run the outdoor thermocouple through the air vent and zip tie it so it hangs about top of eggs.

What I have did for humidity is I add 1/4 a cup everyday (my ambient humidity is beyond low in my house) through day 18, this keeps my humidity between 30-50%. When I go into lockdown on day 18 I added 1/2 cup to it and if the humidity starts to fall below 60% I lift just one end enough to quickly add another 1/2 cup, I usually only have to do this once and humidity stays up as hatching starts. Another thing I noticed is around day 10 with this incubator the temp rises, I believe it is because the embryos are now producing their own heat, I leave the temperature alone the incubator will self regulate to bring it back down to the temperature you have it set at.
