Keeping Only Roosters

You mentioned on your other thread that your neighbor also had hens. A flock of only roosters is much different than a flock with more roosters than hens.

Not sure I said that. May be a typo or someone elses post. None of my neighbors have chickens. And I realize that a flock of only roosters would be different, just wondering if it would be safe or not. And I'm guessing it depends greatly.

I will agree, roosters have more personality and can be kept together, but just to be safe, you should keep less than twenty, and to be extra safe, get Hens and a couple of boys.

Getting hens would make the issue even more hostile.Keeping all boys is not even that bad,@RoostersAreAwesome has a whole thread on this exact situation.
From reading the boys are more mellow, as in getting along.One rooster itself is noisy so I wouldn’t keep 20,I would keep at the most 5-10,I’m assuming your purpose for rising chickens is pets,because that’s all a flock of roosters would provide is a few companions.

I worded it wrong. Have more hens and just a couple roosters. And, yes they can be good together, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Keeping males together is always a risk, if you live by the safe then sorry rule then you wouldn’t keep any boys at all.

Noise is not a issue as I live in the country. I enjoy the noise. Loved when I had Chinese Geese. They were always going off about something.

And I would be working on a research project for a Hatchery. Keeping track of weights, gains, feed per day etc. I've kept chickens for years but never had only roosters so my knowledge around that is ify. But at the same time I would never slaughter them as I love animals too much to ever do that. But all the Hatchery is interested in is the weight gain, feed amounts etc. Not dressing percentages or anything like that.

you can keep roosters in a bachelor pen. I have two bachelor pens, one for my standard size boys and one for my bantam size boys.

I only have 5 and 7 in each of my bachelor pens. 20 is quite a big number. You would need a pretty large coop and some land to let them run around. My bachelor boys get along rather well. I have a few that will not be put near another rooster, they have their own digs for this reason. But for the most part they do get along rather well. I have hens but they have no contact with the girls. It works rather well for me.

yes, a bachelor pen is just like the living quarters that you have for your hens. Only difference is that the members are only roosters.

My larger bachelor pen has 5 rooster that have access to a large outdoor run. My other bachelor pen is all silkies so they have an inclosed run for their protection.
