Keeping Sheep & Goats together...

I know this site is directed more towards birds than anything else, but, do any of you keep goats with sheep? If so, any issues other than mineral supplements?

I have to Mini Nubian goats and I am considering adding one Sheep to their Herd to help with clearing the Jungle here in Hawaii.

I know copper is the biggest issue here, but my friend thinks the two goats might be mean to the sheep?

Thoughts? Experiences?

I plan on doing this myself one day with mini sheep and pygmy goats, so I am anxiously awaiting the answers that you receive!! I have heard that they will need different minerals, but that they will do fine as long as the boys are fixed. Fingers crossed that that is correct!

I would get at least 2 sheep so the goats don’t gang up on the sheep

Is it common for goats to gang up on sheep? I have read that sheep can be pretty docile.

The goats were born in September of last year and the sheep was born in October of last year. None of them are even a year old and they are all naturally polled.

I used to keep two sheep with my goats before it was time to sell the sheep. They became best friends, sleep together, ate together. Best friends. The goats were very sad when the sheep were gone. ;(

Honestly, it depends on the temperament of the sheep and goats. They will learn to get along eventually. (The should anyway) If you goats are sheep have a mellow personality, they will most likely ignore each other. It would be nice if the sheep had a buddy in case the sheep and goats don’t like each other. Hope it works out!

Also, about Mini Nubians. Are mini Nubians a mixed breed, or a real breed recognized by the ADGA? I would love some Mini Nubians! They sound adorable! Do you have pictures?

Yes, Mini Nubians are a mixed breed.

They are a Nigerian Dwarf goat mixed with a Nubian Goat.

Our girls are about 3/4 Nigerian and 1/4 Nubian.

I'm not sure, but I do not think they are recognized by the ADGA, but maybe they are in the "developmental process" or something along those lines! ...

We are new to goats and sheep -- but I had been seeing Mini Nubians on social media and was stoked to find my girls.

I haven't taken the time to read all of the breed standards and stuff. Really, we just wanted some backyard milkers!
