Anyone have a resolution for hens perching on watering cans and pooping in the water? I have been using the galvanized watering containers through the winter but they roost on them and the drinking trough is constantly needing cleaned out. Suggestions appreciated!

Horizontal Water Nipples has been the best for me ... I know some having more chickens than I'm allowed to keep, have it installed on PVC attached to a water source.

3 gallon bucket for me -- I can't lift 5 gallons. :D

While I can lift it I don't because I'm lazy. I gather rain off the back of the coop in 2 55 gallon barrels and use a hose out of the bottom to fill my 2 waterers.

I even use a nipple designed for pigs to water my coons. Horizontal nipples are great for any animal that is prone to getting their water dirty.
